Update Your Drug Formulary For Compliance!
Are you concerned with USP <800> compliance? USP <800> pertains to the handling criteria of hazardous drugs as defined by the NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings, 2016. By now, most of you know what it is. One thing you may not be aware of is that USP <800> addresses the issue of how often you are to update your formulary for hazardous drugs. Workplaces are to maintain a list of hazardous drugs used in their facilities and review this list at least every 12 months.
However, a simple review every 12 months may not be sufficient. Regulatory inspectors are now focusing on not only if an accurate drug formulary review has been performed, but how often is it updated and how soon are new drugs characterized. Because of this, it is becoming the industry standard to update and characterize any new drugs entering your facility as they arrive. This task can easily be accomplished through the PTI’s online portal. To learn more about the PTI portal and compliance with USP <800> and EPA Subpart P, go to
